Admission of students in government schools for the academic year 2025-26 in Tamil Nadu has started. Parents can now enroll their children in the nearest government school from today itself. The Tamil Nadu government has directed teachers and officials of the School Education Department to promote welfare schemes and increase student enrollment. The enrollment of students in Class-1 has officially started.
The Tamil Nadu education department has directed all principals and district education officers to ensure that arrangements are made for the enrolment of thousands of students studying in Anganwadi centres across Tamil Nadu. In particular, children who have completed five years of age should be facilitated to get admission in the nearest government school for Class 1.

The online application form for RTE Tamil Nadu admission for the academic year 2025-26 can be accessed through the above steps.
- To initiate the application process for students access the application portal at https://rteadmission.tnschools.gov.in.
- Click on “Start Application” for the candidate to initiate the application. Fill in the form with the required information and upload the required documents.
- Enter the personal details as specified in the form and save the data. Verify that the attached documents are accurately referenced. A confirmation SMS will be sent for successfully registered applications.
- Provide parent details as mentioned in the form and save the information.
- Update the residential address or specify a nearby landmark for easy identification on the map. Submit the details and save them.
- On saving, a confirmation message will be displayed, allowing modifications to the address if required.
- After updating the address, upload the mandatory documents and save the changes.
- On uploading the documents a list of schools available for selection will be presented. Select the preferred school and save the selection.
- Once the school is selected, relevant information will be generated. Click on the Final Submission button.
- Confirm the submission by clicking on the Submit button to finalize the application.
- On successful submission of the application a confirmation SMS will be sent to the registered mobile number.

- Student’s photo: It should have a width of 150px and height of 175px, and the image size should not exceed 100 KB.
- Student’s Birth Proof: Only JPG/JPEG files are accepted, with a maximum size of 1 MB.

Age Eligibility
Children who have completed the age of 5 years can apply for admission to class 1 in any government school in Tamil Nadu. Apart from this, children wishing to transfer from private schools to a nearby government school can also submit their applications.
RTE Tamil Nadu Admission
RTE admission in Tamil Nadu means that as per Section 12(c) of the RTE Act, private, unaided, special category schools in Tamil Nadu will provide free education to students from weaker sections.
The number of seats in these schools in Tamil Nadu on which this free education will be provided is at least 25% of the total seats. LKG & Class-1 Certificates Required
- The income certificate is issued by the Tahsildar of the Revenue Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
- For SC communities, the certificate is issued by the Tahsildar in the Revenue Department of Tamil Nadu or the appropriate authority for children from different states.
- The community certificate for BC and MBC is provided by the Sub Tahsildar of the Revenue Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
- Similarly, the community certificate for ST is given by the RDO/Sub Collector in the Revenue Department of Tamil Nadu or the concerned authority for children from other states.
- Orphan children get their certificates from the District Social Welfare Officer in the Department of Social Welfare and Nutritious Meal Programme.
- Similarly, the certificate for transgender persons is issued by the Medical Officer authorized by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
- People affected by HIV get their certificates from the Designated Medical Officer authorized by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
- In cases related to children of sanitation workers not employed by local bodies, the authorization is provided by the District Collector or the Designated Authority appointed by the District Collector.
